Restaurant Description:This classy and sophisticated sushi retreat, called "Zen-fabulous" by Citysearch and a "drop-dead-gorgeous restaurant" by the LA Weekly, serves flashy fish dishes for a glitzy showbiz crowd. "Being the favored Japanese restaurant of many Hollywood stars," says Gayot (guides), "Koi offers great people-watching opportunities in a stylish setting, but also delivers some high quality sushi and contemporary Japanese cooking." The restaurant dacor is slick, dark and sultry, lined with bamboo and accented by flickering candles and fireplaces. The chic Asian theme is accented by crimson hues, dark-wood beams and Buddha statues. Menu highlights include tuna tartare with avocado on crispy won tons, thin slices of albacore with basil ponzu, and yellowtail carpaccio with grapeseed oil and wasabi. Other delightful dishes are Chilean sea bass with ginger and shiitake mushrooms, miso-glazed black cod and Kobe beef (paired with seared foie gras as a starter or grilled toban-yaki-style as an entre).
